A. I don't know if I'd say there has been one single thing that has made me feel a sense of accomplishment or even if I would even describe myself as successful. I think that every day is different and it's important to be persistent. As an artist I've learned that people gravitate toward honesty, so the more honest I am with myself and my art the more accessible it is to an audience. I'm very grateful to do what I'm doing.
Q. There is something so beautifully unique about your voice, do you find that has helped you get to where you are today?
A. Ha! Thank you! It's really difficult for me to take a compliment. As an artist, I do think it's important to have a unique voice, but also think it's important to have a unique perspective. I think having a perspective is the most captivating thing an artist can convey.
A. My dad gave me a lot of advice growing up. Something I think about often is when he'd teach me a guitar riff he'd say 'practice this and then make it your own' he wanted me to learn the skill but also to develop my own style. I think that is an important piece of advice in whatever you're doing. Don't worry about what other people are doing, just make it your own.
Q. Is there any advice you would give to someone who has ambitions of becoming a working musician?
A. My advice is always to be persistent and stay true to yourself. Don't let anyone convince you to become something you aren't. Then your most authentic self can succeed.
Q. LA or NY?
A. I love both cities. I grew up in LA and NY. I'd say for this point in my life I'm more suited to LA but I do love visiting NY whenever I get the chance.
Q. Words to live by?
A. Make it your own
Q. Tell me about your latest projects.
A. I have a single coming out on 2/28 called "Silly Words". It's about the fear of impending doom at the beginning of a relationship. The fear of getting hurt and the anxiety that vulnerability brings. I write a lot about romantic relationships or whatever is going on in my life at that time. I have written a lot of new music over the last year and I'm really excited it get it out there.
